In search of the unexpected

Mirus Atelier specialises in creating exquisite and unexpected items of jewellery to cherish and hand down for years to come, striving to find the most extraordinary and unique pieces to add to your collections, to add to your story.

We breathe new life to one-of-a-kind antiques and re-imagine, with utmost attention to detail, past pieces that will eventually become modern heirlooms. Every Mirus piece is imbued with a story and is uniquely handcrafted in our studio or with the assistance of local master jewellers. We care deeply about the future of our planet, our design approach has this at the forefront of our process, striving to safeguard the environment by using recycled materials, found objects or unloved antiques and making sure wherever possible to only use what is most essential. We personally curate and design each Mirus Atelier jewel without forgetting our maxim; each piece must be extraordinary, marvellous, rare, remarkable, strange, surprising, unusual and wonderful, just like you! Choose to stand out of the crowd and let’s tell your jewellery story.

Behind the brand

Maria Sole Cortese is the creative force behind Mirus Atelier. Her work is inspired by the past, and captures a fleeting moment in time, the elusiveness of light, the beauty and awe of the unusual. She loves Victoriana, the Surrealist movement and anything weird and wonderful, combining these to create captivating miniature works of art. Obsessed with collecting antiques and curios ever since she can remember, scavenging flea markets and antique shops all over the world to expertly unearth tiny iconic treasures. An obsession, turned passion that keeps her busy into the little hours of the night. A jewellery designer, artisan, storyteller and artist, curating each collection from her little atelier in the sky.

Maria Sole was born in Italy and recently moved to New York City from London where she studied at Central St. Martin’s College of Art & Design and where her love for Victorian jewellery and Surrealism first began. Her career first started in the theatre, working as a sculptor and set designer, evolving eventually as a creative director in the luxury and beauty industries. The move to New York and recent motherhood has given her time to focus on Mirus Atelier and inspired her to create a legacy for her daughter. Ultimately she is a magpie, a collector, a dreamer, weaving stories and breathing life into each Mirus piece.
