A gorgeous miniature Angel Skin Cameo ring that was once a stick pin, Victorian in age and with a story of distant travel to the romantic shores of Italy to tell.

Exquisitely hand carved, the detail of the woman's profile and its setting is truly stunning. So refined and so delicate, depicting floral notes in the folds of the dress and a beautiful miniature rose tousled within her hair. Her features are delicate and the neck is elongated, perhaps one could imagine in a longing pose.

The Victorians were enamoured of Italy and all things Italian including cameos.
Travellers to Italy bought and wore cameos as a sign of their status and for wealthy English Victorians for whom the “Grand Tour” was de rigueur, Italian cameos were the one must-have item with which they returned home.
Even Queen Victoria succumbed to the beauty of cameos and routinely wore them, and what Queen Victoria did, everyone did – on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. No middle- or upper-class woman’s accessories were complete without a cameo of some type.
Beautiful women, such as the one featured here, were often the subjects for cameos, which were worn by men and women alike.
Angel-skin cameos are those with a pale pink to salmon colour, and it is often mistakenly assumed that all angel-skin cameos are made of coral (pelle d'angelo), when in fact many are made from pink conch or roselyn shell.

The setting of this ring is 10kt solid gold and the band, which was made from the original pin, still shows the tiny hallmark.
