The Swallow Bird Earring
Cast from one of the sweetest and unique Victorian stick pins that I have ever set my eyes upon. This earring features a beautiful gleaming Swallow birdie.
It is deliciously detailed and so refined, its wings are adorned with golden orbs and it carries something precious in its beak.
Swallows had many special meanings during Victorian times, they were the first sign that land was near and were thought to lead ships home and prevent them from being lost. The meaning assigned to these birds became to be ‘safe home’, or ‘to safely return home’ and so they were often given to loved ones when they set out on a journey to make sure one never felt lost.
They were also thought to be "Messengers of Venus" and flying birds in general were thought to represent the soul.
A perfect little talisman to add to your collection and take with you everywhere you go to make sure you are always guided to where you belong.
The Birdie measures approximately 1.5cm
