This incredibly stunning stick pin embodies all the mesmerising power of the Moon and after a bit of research I’ve come to realise this pin is actually the goddess Selene.
Selene is the personification of the moon itself, a captivating figure bearing a crescent moon-shaped headdress. She is the moon goddess, known also as Luna, and rides her horse-drawn chariot fearlessly across the night sky.
She has the power to give sleep and to light the night, she has control over time, and like the moon phases, she is ever-changing.
Story goes that Selene falls in love with a mortal and visits him every night (the moon descending to earth from the sky) she loves him so much she can't bear the thought of his death and so casts a spell putting him into a deep sleep forever so she may see him, unchanging, for all eternity. A little selfish perhaps but poetic and romantic nonetheless (plus who doesn’t love some tragedy and drama in a love story?)
